Apply
Are you ready to get the feeling that comes with seeing how your work helps people change their lives, and yours? If so, then joining EducationWorks and AmeriCorps will be one of the best things you can do for yourself and others.
To apply, submit our online application; only complete applications with essays will be reviewed. Selected applicants will participate in a group interview and take a skills assessment. Then, the most promising applicants will be invited to a final interview, and if accepted, will be tentatively assigned to programs and sites based on their skills, interests, and available openings.
Eligibility
To be considered for an AmeriCorps position, you must at minimum:
- Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident
- Be 17 years old or older on your first day of service
- Have at least one full year's work experience and a) extensive community involvement; b) experience with children; or c) experience in a school or human service setting
- Meet our standards regarding criminal and child abuse histories.
Selecting a Position
You may indicate your preference for one or more of our programs under Position Title. Placements are based on skills, experience, personal attributes, and, to the extent possible, your preference. You will be considered for all available positions and, if accepted, may be offered a position different from your preference.
All full term members beginning with EducationWorks in June serve as Group Leaders in full day summer camps throughout the summer. In the fall, members are assigned to one of our teams. On your application please indicate which position you would prefer for the fall.
Essays
You must submit two essays as part of your application, each of 100 words or more. You are encouraged to write your essays in advance of completing the application on-line, and then cut and paste the text into the application. You may choose to respond to any two of the three following essay questions:
- Why do you want to join EducationWorks?
- How do you feel your life experiences will help you in this position?
- What do you think are the most serious problems facing urban schools and communities, and why?
Background Checks
All members are required to have an up-to-date criminal and child abuse background check, and a national sex offender check by the time they begin Pre-Service Training. EducationWorks will obtain these background checks for you. Members are also required to have an FBI fingerprint check which will be conducted during Pre-Service Training.
Some offenses may disqualify an applicant from consideration and acceptance. Applicants and members may be disqualified for not disclosing a criminal or child abuse history on their application. If results are returned revealing crimes you have not disclosed or which would disqualify your participation, you will be informed of the findings, and may review and challenge the factual accuracy of the results-report.
All members working directly with children are required to have a health assessment within 3 months prior to their start date and a TB test.
